Overview

A top science journalist, the new deputy science editor of The New York Times, talks about what she does and how she does it. Alexandra Sifferlin, the former science news editor for the Times Opinion section, will also discuss her new book, The Elusive Body: Patients, Doctors and the Diagnosis Crisis. Books will be available for sale and signing. This is an open session of SUMA professor Claudia Dreifus’s science opinion writing class.

Moderator: Claudia Dreifus, Lecturer; prize winning science journalist in conversation with, Alexandra Sifferlin, The New York Times Science Deputy Editor.

Alexandra Sifferlin is a health and science journalist. She is the author of the book, “The Elusive Body: Patients, Doctors, and the Diagnosis Crisis.”

She is currently deputy editor of the Science desk at The New York Times. Previously, she was the health and science editor for The New York Times opinion desk, the deputy editor of Elemental and a staff writer at Time Magazine. She lives with her family in Brooklyn.

This conversation will be held in person at the Pulitzer Hall, World Room. Sifferlin will join Professor Dreifus for a featured interview. The session includes an audience Q&A, followed by a book signing and refreshments.
