Construction Administration Speaker Series: BIM Untethered

This event is open only to members of the Columbia University community.

Please join students, alumni, faculty, and industry leaders for a reception, presentation, and Q&A with Denis Leff as he takes us on a journey of exploration and discovery exploring the exciting future of IT’s impact on the AEC industry.

The presentation will conclude with a brief preview of a new advanced BIM elective under consideration for the Construction Administration program offerings.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has moved and evolved significantly over the last decade, becoming an increasingly valuable component for the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) Industry. Concurrently and at a significantly faster pace, many other technologies have emerged and become part of our everyday lives both personally and professionally. Smartphones are replacing telephones, apps are replacing programs, GPS is replacing roadmaps, Amazon is revolutionizing shopping, the Cloud is extinguishing physical storage, Space X is reusing rockets, and on and on. At the core of all these advances are software, databases, hardware, IoT, a process, and a “doer.” If you want to take your BIM ideas and turn them into game-changing reality, BIM Untethered will unlock the possibilities.

About the Presenter

Denis Leff is a former Columbia University adjunct professor who designed and taught IT Advantages in Construction for the Master of Science in Construction Administration program. He spent 10 years working for (Bovis) Lend Lease in New York City as BIM/Logistics Director before moving to Seoul, South Korea, where he has spent the last six years developing unique approaches for Samsung C&T to utilize BIM throughout their global projects. As a professional hobby, he enjoys developing software for desktop and mobile applications.

BIM Untethered is the first in a series of presentations by industry leaders and experts focusing on topics of vital interest and importance to those involved in construction and related fields. We hope you can join us for part two and three of the inaugural summer series, scheduled for July 18 and August 15. More details to come.
