Murli Buluswar

Head of U.S. Consumer Analytics, Citi

Murli Buluswar is an analytical and strategic C-Suite Financial Services Leader, successful in building alignment and achieving commercial success by harnessing data-driven decision-making.  He is adept at challenging talent, and achieving financial outcomes and cultural evolution by collaborating and developing data & technology-driven solutions. Murli’s experience is in simplifying and surgically automating business processes, while guiding business model innovation. As a former member of The Operating Committee of a Fortune 100 firm, he is skilled at influencing board members and senior leaders to expand innovative thinking, lead execution, and build relevance in a world of data and digital innovation.  Murli has inspired the strategy of a large global organization in a mature industry, helping reduce operating costs, improve loss ratios, and increase sales on the basis of deeper understanding of operations.

Effective May 2019, Murli is The Head of U.S. Consumer Analytics at Citi, leading a team of 400+ analytics professionals to support Citi’s vision to build a best in class digital marketing consumer bank.

For the two years prior, Murli was a Senior Advisor to The Boston Consulting Group and two startups. He helped shape clients’ ability to retool decision making powered by Machine Learning.

As the former Chief Science Officer for AIG, he built a (data) science team on a mission to ‘serve as a catalyst for consistent evidence-based decision making at AIG.’ Science served as a data-driven internal change management team by assembling a complementary set of capabilities in: problem structuring, data engineering, data science, and application development. It has tapped into these competencies and harnessed AIG’s data assets to implement analytical insights.

Murli’s prior experiences include insurance roles at Progressive (Product Manager), and Farmers Insurance (Head of Insight & Innovation). He began his career at Capital One as a statistician, and has an academic background in Economics & Statistics (Auburn University) and an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

In Los Angeles, Murli joined the Board of The Harmony Project, a not-for-profit whose mission is to help underprivileged children in LA gain purpose through free music instruction. Having moved to the east coast, he is now on the NYC Tri-state Board of Pratham, whose mission is to help educate underprivileged children in India. He lives in Tenafly, NJ with his family, and in addition to multiple sports, is an avid strategy board game player.
