Elaine Larson

Advisory Board Member, Bioethics; Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Therapeutic and Pharmaceutical Research, Columbia’s School of Nursing

Elaine Larson, PhD, RN, FAAN, CIC, is the Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Therapeutic and Pharmaceutical Research at Columbia’s School of Nursing. Her research and clinical interests are infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and control, research ethics, and informed consent.

Larson has published widely on a wide variety of subjects such as multidrug-resistant organisms, the relationship between health and social networks, tracking infections with electronic data, and reimbursement systems. She has won numerous from organizations such as the American Association of Critical Care Nursing, John Hopkins University, National Institute of Nursing Research, Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the National Academy of Sciences.

She has served on numerous committees, including the Committee on Gulf War and Health at the Institute of Medicine, the Task Force on the Future of the Research-focused Doctorate at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and the Institutional Review Board at Columbia University Medical Center. Larson is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
