Towards Locality in Cases for Asian-Pacific Region Bioethics Research

Bioethics Lecturer Sara May Bergstresser, Ph.D. and Academic Director Robert Klitzman, M.D. were recently published in the Asian Bioethics Review for their research titled “What Does It Mean for a Case to be ‘Local’?: the Importance of Local Relevance and Resonance for Bioethics Education in the Asia-Pacific Region.”

In the research, they present findings from the use of local cases from the Asia-Pacific region to more accurately define and justify what makes a case local, specific topics found to be best explained through these standards and how to identify relevance in a local case. The research is a response to much of the contemporary bioethics education being developed through the lens of Euro-American context as other global regions continue to join the field. Example cases were sourced from Hong Kong, Australia, Pakistan, and Malaysia. You can learn more about their research here.
