Daily News Publishes Op-Ed by Executive Strategic Communication Student

Executive Master of Science in Strategic Communication student Gloria Chin has published an op-ed in the New York Daily News that advocates for the importance of guidance counselors. She details her journey from the drug-stricken Bronx of the 1990s to the world of higher education.

“The support I got from [my guidance counselor] Dr. Comras was the start of a lifetime of change,” she writes. “Success is possible with the proper support. I am living proof of this.” With his help, Chin was accepted into Fordham University, selected as a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar, and eventually admitted into the Strategic Communication master’s program at Columbia’s School of Professional Studies. In fact, she originally drafted the op-ed in her Power of Opinion class in the program.

Her work is paying off: in addition to her academic career, Chin is a spokesperson for the NYC Department of Transportation. Learn more about her path to excellence by reading her SPS profile and her powerful op-ed.
