Andrew Ditton

Lecturer; Adjunct Professor | Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs & Chairman | Community Development Trust

Andrew Ditton has devoted more than 47 years to community development and public-private partnerships since launching his career with a nine-year stint as a community organizer and developer at Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago.

He then served 13 years in various positions at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) where he managed the Chicago office and founded the National Equity Fund, managed the western United States field offices, and from 1990 through 1997 was LISC’s New York based Chief Credit Officer and Chief Operating Officer.  Mr. Ditton then returned to Chicago and co-founded a real-estate development firm focused on affordable housing. 

In 1999 he was asked to launch Citigroup’s new community development lending and investing business and for 14 years served as Co-Head of Citi Community Capital (CCC) managing all community development lending and investment activity for the international financial services conglomerate. While at Citi, Mr. Ditton built CCC into the nation’s premier community development businesses. During 2013, CCC lent and invested nearly $5 billion.  He then became Managing Director and Chief of CRA Strategy at Citi.  From 2018 until his retirement in 2021, Mr. Ditton created and managed Citi’s impact investing venture fund.  

His board service (past and present) includes: the Community Development Trust (where Mr. Ditton currently serves as Chairman), The National Equity Fund (NEF), The Non-Profit Facilities Fund (NFF), and the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF), which he also chaired from 2006 to 2008 and 2012-2014. Mr. Ditton has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) since 2013.

Mr. Ditton earned a BA degree from Shimer College, and an MA in Urban Studies from Loyola University.
