Registration is now open for summer courses at Columbia University. Students currently enrolled in the university, including those at Columbia College, Columbia Engineering, and the School of General Studies, may log onto Student Services Online to register. Teachers College students should visit their Office of the Registrar website for registration information.
A selection of more than 400 online and HyFlex courses in 50 subject areas is currently posted in the Directory of Classes. This year, summer courses will be offered in Session A, taking place May 3rd through June 18th; Session B, taking place June 28th through August 16th; and/ or Session X, which spans the entire summer term, May 3rd through August 16th. As part of the three-term 2020/21 academic year, Columbia College and School of Engineering undergraduate students enrolled full-time in fall 2020 and spring 2021 may enroll in summer courses at no additional tuition cost for a maximum of 40 credits for the academic year. Senior Arts & Sciences faculty will instruct several of the courses, including Professor of Economics and International and Public Affairs Wojciech Kopczuk, Associate Professor of History Hilary-Anne Hallett, and Professor of Physics Emlyn Hughes. In addition, Columbia Journalism School is offering courses open to students across the university; C. J. Chivers will instruct War Reporting: The Coverage of Armed Conflict and Topher Sanders will instruct Journalism in an Age of Activism, among others. Students should review each course’s rules for eligibility and prerequisites in the Directory of Classes.
The lists of 2021 summer courses that fulfill Core Requirements for Columbia College and General Studies students are now available. For information on registration procedures, including late registration and maximum point loads, please consult with your program advisor. Students who’ve been admitted to a Columbia University program in the Fall who would like to begin their studies early must contact their academic advising office for approval and registration procedures.
