SPS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

By Nia Anyike

Join the School of Professional Studies as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Now through October 15, we recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history and culture of the U.S. This year’s theme is Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.

Here are some ways you can celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at and around Columbia:

September 29 at 5:00 p.m. | The Art of the Latinx Rant

A conversation in Pulitzer Hall between Joanna Hausmann and Frances Negron-Muntaner on identity, humor, and more. More information

October 2 at 12 noon | A La Calle Block Party

This event on West 98th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues is a celebration of Latinx dance, art, music, food, and culture. More information

October 9 | Hispanic Day Parade

This parade features twenty-one countries sharing their music, folklore, and traditions with the City of New York. The parade begins on 5th Avenue at 44th Street and ends at 77th. More information

Through October 15 | New York Public Library

Attend several events over the course of Hispanic Heritage Month hosted by the New York Public Library. More information

We would love for the SPS community to contribute to our celebration. If you are a student or faculty or staff member who would like to contribute a blog post for Hispanic Heritage Month, please contact us at spsnews [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu.
