Director of Student Life Publishes Chapter On New Student Development Model

Tiffany Onorato, Ed.M., Director of Student Life at the School of Professional Studies, recently co-authored a chapter of The Dynamic Student Development Meta-Theory, published last month by Peter Lang. The book champions a new model for student success based on empirical research from a broad survey of over 500,000 subjects.

The experimental method is called the Dynamic Student Development Metatheodel (DSDM) and it views student experience as a combination of three measurable aspects: behavior, cognition, and affect. By understanding these inputs, higher educators can better enable student development and create more effective responses to challenges in their field.

Onorato’s chapter—co-authored with Kevin Majewski and Dr. Thea Zunick—outlines how the DSDM can be applied in STEM-based institutions and programs.

As Director of Student Life at the School of Professional Studies, Onorato draws on her education expertise every day and works closely with graduate and summer high school students to enhance every aspect of their co-curricular experience.
