Collaborating Toward Justice: Does contact across difference help?
This webinar will describe the Center for Justice's work to transform the justice system through an educational collaboration among government agencies and members of communities impacted by these agencies. The approach brings together in a seminar, people with different — often adversarial — roles in relation to the government systems that impact daily life in minority communities most heavily impacted by poverty, violence, harsh policing, and incarceration. In the seminar, everyone is a student committed to engaging from their different perspectives in challenging discussions and co-developing effective solutions that increase safety and promote community well-being. Guest speaker Geraldine Downey will draw on qualitative interviews with participants to provide a preliminary window into the impact of the approach.
