Another Housing Bubble? Forecasts, Risks, Policies, and Management
House prices have increased 10% per year over the last five years, and consumers are optimistic about further price strengthening. Nonetheless, prices are high compared to personal income. In fact, the National Association of Realtors affordability index is near an all-time low. This raises questions: Are we in another housing bubble? What are the consequences if it bursts? Are our financial institutions as exposed as they were before the Global Financial Crisis and, if not, where did the risk go? Lastly, how can participants manage their exposure to the housing market?
