Alyson (Lal) Horan

Associate, American Language Program

Alyson (Lal) Horan is a doctoral student in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research uses Conversation Analysis to explore how American Sign Language (ASL) is taught in second language settings. She has presented her research at both national and international conferences. She has been teaching ESL for over 10 years, working in various US cities as well as abroad, including courses taught in Haiti and 2 years teaching at a university in southwestern China. She worked as a TEFL trainer for Peace Corps volunteers and currently runs various teacher training workshops in NYC. In addition to teaching at the ALP, she teaches at the Community Language Program (Teachers College) and at LaGuardia Community College.
