Robert Klitzman Featured in VICE Article on Surrogacy and the COVID Vaccine
In a recent VICE article, Dr. Robert Klitzman, Director of Columbia’s Bioethics program, was featured. The article, “Parents Are Demanding Surrogates Who Won’t Get the COVID Vaccine,” discusses how a large portion of couples seeking a surrogate are now specifically asking for women who will agree to remain unvaccinated through their pregnancies. Several surrogates interviewed decided to leave the decision of whether they will get vaccinated or not to the parents of the fetus they are carrying. “[The surrogates] would face a lot of pressure to acquiesce, and they would, I think, face a lot of obstacles in going to court, given the power differential,” Klitzman said.
