Research Ethics Challenges at Universities
A whistleblower has claimed that UC San Diego is not following basic rules meant to protect human research subjects, and is putting patients at risk.
Dr. Robert Klitzman, Academic Director of the Master of Science in Bioethics program, spoke to NPR about how many universities face conflicts between funding and ethics.
“They are inherent in the process and they need to be managed,” Klitzman said.
University employees must feel comfortable making decisions based on federal guidelines. They must also not be put under pressure to take on dangerous research, Dr. Klitzman said.
