Join us for an engaging conversation with ERM part-time lecturer Penny Cagan on the challenges of managing operational risk amid rapid and ongoing change—topics explored in her book Managing Operational Risk in a Changing World.

Moderated by part-time lecturer Rossano Rossi and hosted by Mark Jankiewicz, Head of ORM Framework & GRC at Prudential, the discussion will examine key themes from the book, including how operational risk has become more complex, interconnected, and consequential to business performance and organizational resilience. Organizations today are navigating rapid technological change, evolving regulation, cyber threats, third-party dependencies, data challenges, and rising expectations from customers, boards, and regulators. In this environment, operational risk management can't be merely a reporting exercise—it must help leaders anticipate what's ahead, make better decisions, and build resilience before disruption occurs.

The conversation also explores how expectations for operational risk are evolving, why now is the right moment to view operational risk as a strategic discipline, and practical ways to strengthen both organizational and personal resilience. The session will close with a discussion of careers in operational risk management, including how to establish a foothold in the field as the profession—and the stakes—continue to grow.
