On March 21, 2014 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, Canada, Strategic Communications Prof. Simon Sinek took the stage at the 30th annual TED conference. [Ed. note: Prof. Sinek does not currently teach for the Strategic Communications program.]
The author of the book Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, leadership expert Sinek delivered his TED talk "Why good leaders make you feel safe."
Sinek said that great leaders are not unlike great parents. "What makes a great parent? We want to give our child opportunities, education, discipline them when necessary, all so that they can grow up and achieve more than we could for ourselves. Great leaders want exactly the same thing."
