Wei Shi, Ph.D.

Lecturer, Strategic Communication

Dr. Wei Shi’s background is based primarily in organizational communication research and consulting. Her research addresses knowledge sharing and innovation in a variety of organizational contexts, including large technology firms, early-stage startups, family businesses and non-profit organizations. She focuses on understanding the factors that drive internal efficiency and generate perceptions of legitimacy in the eyes of external stakeholders. Her research has appeared in Journal of Knowledge Management, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, International Journal of Knowledge Management, International Encyclopedia of Organizational Communication, and other peer-reviewed outlets in system sciences. In 2021, she received a Research Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science to study Japanese family firms at Waseda University in Tokyo.

Dr. Shi is a lecturer on Communication Research and Insights at Columbia’s Master of Science in Strategic Communication program. She is also a faculty member at the State University of New York system and NYU Stern School of Business. She previously held management and research positions at IBM in Shanghai and Facebook in New York.

Dr. Shi holds a Master’s in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Rutgers University School of Communication and Information.
