Creativity Right From the Start: Attention, Representation and Affiliation Through a Child's Eyes with M. Anne Cunney, MS'15

One thing often missing from childhood education is a focus on ethics. M. Anne Cunney (MS ’15) developed an ethics curriculum for children that began at the crossroads of narrative medicine and the core values of the Ethical Society. She spent seven years as director of children’s education at the Ethical Society of Northern Westchester and introduced a similar curriculum to children in after-school and summer camp programs. The results underscore how bringing the creative act together with attention, representation, and affiliation can establish a foundation for a supportive, cooperative community of good human beings – that is, people who possess qualities such as kindness, empathy, integrity, compassion, and humility. Anne will share approaches to this curriculum as well as narrative work done by the children in the programs.
