A Career in Risk: Lessons from Philippa Girling's Journey in Financial Institutions

Career in Risk

Join us for a live Q&A session with Philippa Girling, the author of “Operational Risk Management: A Complete Guide for Banking and Fintech", the text used in the ERM Program's Operational Risk courses. Philippa has a long and distinguished career in risk management, including over 25 years experience in global financial institutions. She was most recently Chief Risk Officer with Varo Bank N.A.

This is your chance to meet the author, submit questions, and understand the context that drove the development of the material in the book. In addition, Philippa will discuss her rich career in risk management and provide insight into the type of skills and strategies one should develop to secure a risk management job. Philippa was designated as one of the “Top Fifty Faces of Operational Risk” by Risk and Regulation Magazine, along with Penny Cagan, a Part-Time Lecturer in the ERM program, who will be interviewing Philippa for this session.

The U.S. regulators have identified operational risk as one of the most material risks of our day. The discipline is broad and touches every type of institution. Managing operational risk is critical for success regardless of the role one plays in an organization, and all students in the ERM and other programs will benefit from the session.
