Sarah A. Custen

Associate, American Language Program

Sarah A. Custen is a writer, musician, and educator who has taught in the ALP program since 2018. She hails from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she earned her B.A. in English literature from the University of Utah and worked for many years at the Salt Lake City Public Library. Sarah then lived and taught in Madrid and Tokyo before moving to New York, where she earned an MATESOL degree from The New School. In addition to teaching English to non-native speakers, Sarah has also taught Spanish, special education, rhetoric and composition, and zine-making. Beyond the ALP, she has worked for Pratt Institute, Baruch College, and The School of the New York Times, and volunteered with Girls Write Now and FeLT NYC. Sarah is a values-based person who is passionate about community service, mutual aid, and creative expression.
