hosted by the American Language Program
Columbia University Faculty House
Saturday, February 24, 2018
9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

NEW YORK – The American Language Program (ALP) is pleased to announce that its Winter Conference will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Columbia University’s Faculty House and that we are now accepting proposals to present at the conference. The theme for this year’s conference is "Vocabulary Learning / Vocabulary Teaching.”

We welcome proposals from our colleagues at all New York area universities, colleges, and schools, and we are interested in receiving proposals that focus on:
•    novel approaches and techniques to teaching vocabulary to English-language learners
•    research-informed presentations that focus on how students learn, remember, and use vocabulary

We are especially interested in presentations from which attendees will take away practical applications.

Each presentation will be 40 minutes long. There is also an option to present for 10 minutes on one specific vocabulary activity, technique, or use of technology that can be shared very briefly.

Proposals will be evaluated based on:
•    Novelty of approach
•    Significance to the field
•    Research basis for proposed practices
•    Relevance of topic to the conference theme
•    Clarity of session description
