Columbia University provides eligibility parameters for participation in graduation related events. This ensures that students are completing degree requirements and participating in accordance with University policy.
May and June 2021 Eligibility
Students with a conferral date of October 2020, February 2021 or May 2021 are eligible to participate in both SPS Graduation and CU Commencement. Registration is required for both events.
Students with a conferral date of October 2021 are eligible to participate in the May 2021 ceremonies. On occasion, if space allows, we are able to make exceptions for students with a conferral date of October to attend the May ceremonies prior to finishing their coursework.
This year, we are happy to announce that students with a planned degree conferral date of October 2021 (those finishing classes in summer 2021) will be permitted to participate in the May 2021 ceremonies under the following circumstances:
- Students must register for their final courses, fulfilling all degree requirements, to be completed during summer 2021.
- Once registered for final coursework, students must email their academic advisor to formally request to participate in the May 2021 ceremony. All requests must be submitted prior to Friday, April 2, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Please note: Students who fail to register for summer courses or who are not an anticipated October 2021 degree conferral will not be permitted to participate in the May 2021 ceremonies.
If you are unsure what your anticipated degree conferral date is, please reach out to your academic advisor to schedule a meeting to discuss your academic plan.
