Edith Updike
Lecturer, Strategic Communication
For over twenty years, Edith Updike has been a journalist, editor, strategist, coach, and mentor at the crossroads of journalism, media, and education. An award-winning business reporter with stints at BusinessWeek, New York Newsday, and the Financial Time’s FundFire, she is currently managing editor at Global Finance Media.
From 2007 to 2011, Updike led the development and instruction of core and advanced writing courses across graduate communications programs at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies. She also has extensive experience in corporate classrooms, often leading custom workshops that strengthen organizational communication and team members’ strategic thinking. She offers one-on-one strategic coaching for writers of fiction and nonfiction, from manuscript evaluation to career development.
Her community work includes presenting at local venues on First Amendment freedoms, journalism and democracy, social media, and related topics. She is also a facilitator with the Alternatives to Violence Project and a puppy raiser with the Guide Dog Foundation of New York.
