Professor Cindy Lott Presents Civil Society Research at American Political Science Association 2021

This October, Associate Professor of Professional Practice Cindy M. Lott presented research on existing empirical evidence on regulation of the nonprofit sector and what further regulatory research agenda is needed by the sector for a robust civil society; she presented at the 117th American Political Science Association annual conference focused on “Promoting Pluralism.”

Professor Lott co-authored her presentation, "Assessing the Legal and Regulatory Frameworks for U.S. Civil Society," with Elizabeth Boris, Ph.D., Founding Director of the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute, and Mary Shelly, J.D., Reference Librarian at University of Pennsylvania's Carey Law School.

The conference session, "Repression to Regulation: The State and Civil Society Around the Globe," featured Duke's Kristin Goss, Georgia State's Andrew Heiss, and University of Maryland's Summer Marion. The session engaged three additional papers, which were authored by UVA's Luke Shimek, Emory's Anthony DeMattee, University at Texas Austin's Ji Ma, and Syracuse University's Catherine Herrold.
