SPS students elected M.S. Nonprofit Management students Arlene Chandra, '22SPS, and Angelina Fung, '22SPS, to SPS Student Government (SPSSG). Chandra and Fung join fellow M.S. Nonprofit Management students Caitlin Lasher, SPSSG Secretary, and Dean Cline, Member-At-Large, who were elected in previous terms.
Elected to serve as the M.S. Nonprofit Management Program Representative Arlene Chandra is an experienced social services professional who enrolled in the M.S. Nonprofit Management program for Columbia’s academic rigor and networking opportunities. In addition to serving as the M.S. Nonprofit Management Program Representative, Chandra is the SPSSG Social Committee Co-Chair; she also serves as the President of Nonprofit Management Student Association (NMSA). Chandra aims to improve the student experience by embracing its diversity and organizing social events where students can connect. “I am brown and unapologetically loud,” she says. “My plans are to create space for student voices to be heard and honored. I wish to foster a sense of belonging through social activities by celebrating and bringing awareness to cultural holidays and traditions that reflect the Columbia community at large. I aspire to create social atmospheres that are validating.”
Newly elected SPSSG Member-At-Large Angelina Fung is a full-time financial advisor concentrating on sustainable investing through Columbia’s Nonprofit Management M.S. program. She is also the Co-Chair of the SPSSG Alumni Committee, where she plans to activate what she’s learning through the M.S. program. “I have had a phenomenal experience at SPS so far and would love to leverage my existing experiences to further advocate for SPS,” she says. “I would like to optimize our process in connecting and supporting existing SPS students with the strong alumni network we have at the university.”
SPSSG members work with students, faculty, and administrators to enhance the full student experience by advocating to incorporate students’ views into school policies, liaising with faculty and senior leadership, and funding student events, clubs, and other initiatives. SPSSG nominations and elections begin at the start of the Fall and Spring terms.
