Career Design Lab Success Stories: 2022

The Career Design Lab (CDL) is structured to provide students and alumni the support they need to secure the roles they want. CDL hosts an average of a hundred events in an academic year, and career coaching sessions are designed for a wide range of professionals. These opportunities cover resume writing, job search strategies, personal branding, interview skills, career transitions, salary negotiations, and more. Here are the experiences of three 2022 graduates.

The Career Design Lab is one of the best takeaways from my time at Columbia, and I recommend all students get to know their counselors and begin working with them from day one.”

My role at The TIE is mainly focused on leveraging their comprehensive crypto data to provide insight to issuers on topics such as Google Tag Manager, public relations, and marketing strategies. I used my network to reach out to The TIE and began discussions from there. Since I began my program at Columbia, CDL has been a crucial resource in providing guidance each step of the way. I went into my program with a clear idea of the industry and specific role I wanted to break into, and the CDL counselors were tremendously supportive. They provided the information and resources I needed to achieve my goal. The Career Design Lab is one of the best takeaways from my time at Columbia and I recommend all students get to know their counselors and begin working with them from day one.

I participated in career coaching sessions with CDL and now work as an integral member of the Global Facilities Innovation and Integration Group responsible for decarbonizing Micron’s operations.”

I participated in career coaching sessions with CDL and now work as an integral member of the Global Facilities Innovation and Integration Group responsible for decarbonizing Micron’s operations. This is done primarily through promoting and supporting the sustainability programs, including their energy management system (ISO 50001 or similar standards), energy efficiency, and energy data transparency. I will be taking on other sustainability projects in the near future to further reduce Micron’s global carbon footprint and meet its internal and external environmental sustainability goals. I also assist the team to achieve organizational effectiveness and am currently developing the Sustainability Execution Plan (including network coordination).

I believe I was provided this amazing opportunity to join Valley National Bank at the mid-senior level because of both my cemented background in the banking industry and my master’s degree from Columbia University.”

At Valley National Bank, I serve as a subject matter expert on the bank’s commercial products. I identify market opportunities for new commercial products, including cost/benefit analysis, client needs, and fit within the existing product suite. I was already working full-time at a different financial institution, but I believe I was provided this amazing opportunity to join Valley National Bank at the mid-senior level because of both my cemented background in the banking industry and my master’s degree from Columbia University, an Ivy League institution.
