Leila May-Landy

Leila May-Landy began teaching English in France to faculty, staff and students at a telecommunications engineering school. During her seven years there, she coordinated in-house language training in English, Spanish and German for 600 students and 20 faculty. In the 25 years that she has been teaching at Columbia University’s American Language Program, she has served the department in a number of administrative positions, most notably coordinating testing and part-time programs. She has taught a wide range of courses in the ALP’s full- and part-time programs as well as specialized courses for media professionals and international faculty. Since 2000, she has worked closely with Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs in the design of courses streamlined to the academic needs of their students. She has given conference presentations on language testing, curriculum, teacher training, program administration and more recently on the use of technology in language teaching. She has co-authored an ESL grammar exercise book and written on performance-based testing. Her areas of interests are in English for professional purposes and the use of technology in language teaching. She is currently working on her Ed.D. in educational technology at Teachers College.
