John Rusk

Lecturer; Owner and President, Rusk Renovations, Inc.

Founder and Partner of Rusk Renovations, John Rusk is a recognized building industry leader, who is equally dedicated to client service and master craft. His residential construction company is highly rated in the Franklin Report for high end residential contractors for both their traditional and modern work. His expertise in design and engineering of complicated mechanical systems, paired with a background in fine arts, has equipped him with the rare ability to understand and deliver the vision of both clients and their respective design teams. Rusk is the first General Contractor in New York City to be Wellness trained to provide and install wellness features such as air and water purification and Circadian lighting systems. Rusk is the recipient of a Lucy G. Moses Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy for his contributions to historic preservation. He is the author of On Time and On Budget (Doubleday, 1996), a homeowner’s guide to renovation, has written a popular newspaper column, appeared on the Today Show, and his work and advice have been published in the pages of many magazines and newspapers, including New York Magazine, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Elle Décor, Newsweek, House and Gardens and Abode2. As an enthusiastic educator dedicated to developing the next generations of artisan builders, John teaches Residential Construction and Renovations. He formerly taught at the Parsons School of Design. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and studied negotiation at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School through Radcliffe Seminars. 

Through his second corporation, Constructive Decisions Inc. John Rusk serves as an empaneled arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association, one of four Construction Master Mediators in New York. has resolved construction disputes ranging from several thousand dollars to twenty eight million dollars and often designs and teaches workshops and seminars for AAA members, law firms and architectural practices on mediation techniques, controlling risk and ethics.
