Joe Sevely has been a professor for the last three years, teaching classes in Risk Management, Finance and Insurance. In addition to teaching at Columbia University, he is also an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business. In his Risk Management courses, he focuses on real-life situations to show how certain patterns of behavior or corporate approaches can increase risk profile and sometimes lead to catastrophic results.
He has over 30 years of business experience in senior positions in risk management, financial management and investment banking. He is currently Managing Director of FairWinds Advisory Services. Previously he was CFO of Cutwater Asset Management, a fixed income asset management company that is now part of BNY Mellon. As CFO he led the Risk Management, Finance, Operations, Information Technology, Legal and Compliance teams. Previously he served as Head of Market Risk Management and Treasurer of a publicly traded insurance company. He also brings strong Wall Street experience, having worked for predecessor firms to Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase and BofA Merrill Lynch in senior product development, derivatives and financial management capacities.
