Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Applied Analytics
François Scharffe's thesis focused on the representation of ontology alignments. After a short postdoc, he was appointed Maitre de conferences (tenured assistant professor) at the University of Montpellier, France in 2010. He was notably the principal investigator of Datalift, researching and developing an experimental ETL platform for linked-data. In 2014 he moved to New York and co-founded 3Top, a social media platform for ranking and recommendation. There he built a large knowledge graph, a natural language processing pipeline, and a recommendation engine. In 2016 he joined Dextro, a computer vision startup acquired a year later by Axon. He worked there as an ontology scientist, researching techniques that bring together knowledge representation and deep learning. In 2018, Scharffe became a Senior Lecturer for the M.S. in Applied Analytics program at Columbia University. The same year he founded The Data Chefs, a knowledge engineering company.
