Fall Update

At SPS this fall, all courses, other than pre-established online courses, will be offered face-to-face in our New York City classrooms. Some of these face-to-face courses will be offered in the HyFlex format to ensure that all of our students can make progress toward their degree requirements, if faced with delays due to student visas or vaccination effectiveness wait times.

Columbia University’s Master of Science in Information and Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) trains leaders to guide such organizations. Our graduates master essential skills across the full spectrum of enterprise-wide knowledge strategy, from business analytics and Artificial Intelligence, collaboration and team/project management, to digital transformation and change management. Their training enables them to optimize strategy and outcomes at all levels of organizations in any industry, nonprofit, and government sector.

Our flexible Curriculum is part-time, designed to be completed by working professionals, and includes four elective courses which you can choose yourself from other graduate programs across Columbia University. This way you can tailor your Columbia experience to fit your own intellectual curiosity and career objectives.

Time Commitment and Expectations

This part-time program is designed for senior working professionals who are eager to apply what they learn to their profession for an immediate impact. Our most successful students employ good time-management practices to balance this program with the demands of their professional and personal lives. The coursework requires a firm commitment to weekly engagement in course meetings and assignments.

  • Each required course meets online, typically one night per week.
  • Elective courses offered by IKNS meet online, typically one night per week. Elective courses offered by other Columbia University graduate degree programs may meet online or in-person and can be elected according to the student’s preference.
  • For each course, students should allocate a minimum of 10 to 12 hours per week outside of class times during each term for readings, asynchronous online discussions, collaborative projects, and other assignments.
  • Students have the flexibility to customize their schedules to complete the degree in as little as 16 months (four consecutive terms, including summer) or up to three 3 years.
