Business Plus

Courses in Business, Science, Math + Communication for Non-Native English Speakers

In today’s competitive business environment, effective communication and a strong command of English are essential to career advancement. Columbia University’s Business Plus offers non-native English speakers an opportunity to improve oral communication and writing skills while taking courses in business, science, or math. Students work closely with Columbia faculty to improve their ability to communicate more clearly and confidently in professional contexts.

Who Should Apply

Non-native English speakers with a desire to improve oral communication and writing skills while taking business or quantitative courses. The program is specifically open to rising juniors, seniors, and bachelor's degree holders.

Program Options
Program Application Requirements Course Format Time Commitment
Business Plus (Fall & Spring)

Applicants must have a TOEFL iBT score between 85 and 99, a minimum SPS/ALP level of 7, or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

During the fall and spring semesters, Business Plus students take two required communication courses and two quantitative courses.

1 semester. Business Plus will not be offered Fall 2020.

Business Plus (Summer)

Applicants must have a TOEFL iBT score between 85 and 99, a minimum SPS/ALP level of 7, or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.

Business Plus Summer students take a combination of one English course and one quantitative elective. 

1 semester.

In addition, if studying on a student visa, you must enroll in the full-time option (12 credits per term), if available, and study on campus.
