Edwin Scholte Biography

Edwin Scholte is Chief Operating Officer for McGraw-Hill’s Global Education businesses. He was hired as part of the private equity backed operating team to deliver on the turn-around investment thesis post acquisition by Apollo Global Management in 2013. He is also responsible for strategy and business development.

He is a Board Member of busuu, the world’s largest social online language learning community, where he works with management and other investors in developing and executing the company’s growth strategy.

Earlier, Scholte ran the global intellectual property business for LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier. He drove the merger with Reed Technology and Information Services, creating one global intellectual property business within Reed Elsevier. In addition, he initiated the start-up and funding of LexisNexis’ online-on-demand continued education business.

Prior to LexisNexis, he was Chief Financial Officer for Wolters Kluwer’s US Legal Markets business. He initially joined Wolters Kluwer to carve out and stand up the Kluwer Law International business following the sale of Kluwer Academic Publishers to Candover and Cinven.

Before moving to the industry Scholte build experience in venture capital with the development of Delta Lloyd’s online insurance platform start-up, and the Foundation for Professional Innovation, a boutique incubator, which he ultimately took over through his own firm Upstream Ventures.

Scholte holds an M.B.A. with Honors from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business, in the United States. He also has a B.Sc. degree in Business Economics with Honors from a top-tier business school in the Netherlands.

Scholte is a citizen of the Netherlands. He currently lives in New York City, where he moved after having lived in Amsterdam and Paris.
