EESC S1011D Introduction to Earth Sciences, I : Lab & Lecture. 4 points.

May be counted toward the science requirement for most Columbia University undergraduates. Students who wish to take only the lectures should register for EESC S1411D.

The processes and history of our planet. Formation of the elements, Earth and solar system.  Evidence for the large-scale structure and dynamics of the whole Earth including plate tectonics and earthquakes.  Processes that shape the Earth’s surface.  A field trip to Central Park, June 15, 10 am – 2 pm, will explore the geologic history of Manhattan.  Any student who cannot attend the field trip will write an alternative short research paper.
