Vince Gennaro On Orioles Pitcher

Vince Gennaro, the program director of the Master of Science in Sports Management, recently spoke to MLB Network radio about his thoughts on Zach Britton, the Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher. Gennaro acknowledges that his thoughts are in the minority and other relievers are considered more valuable, but lists off the statistics that make Britton so successful.

“[Britton] throws in the mid to high 90s with a very limited pitch variety, essentially, one pitch. He has over 11 [strikeouts] per nine [innings] and under 2 walks per [game]. He has a very high ground ball rate, in the 70-plus percent range for balls in play.”
