Vince Gennaro on MLB Opt-Out Clauses

Vince Gennaro, program director of the M.S. in Sports Management program, discusses the opt-out clause in baseball player contracts. Typically viewed as simply a benefit for players, the opt-out clause can work to an MLB team's advantage:

“We’re getting to a point where teams are starting to view the opt-out as a win. It’s a way to minimize and mitigate the risk you get when you sign a player to a long-term deal.”
