Success of Red Sox Rides on Decisions Ben Cherington Made

The Boston Globe looks into how Ben Cherington, faculty for the Sports Management master’s program at Columbia University, had an eye for the future when he managed the Boston Red Sox.

Cherington set up the Red Sox for what could be years of success by developing — and refusing to trade — talented young players such as Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Blake Swihart.

Cherington also added to a deep pool of prospects by signing or drafting outfielder Andrew Benintendi, righthander Anderson Espinoza, infielder Yoan Moncada, and first baseman Sam Travis.
