Dr. Dan Rodriguez is a Senior Risk Officer for Point 72 Asset Management, with risk management responsibilities for the Consumer, Retail and Financial discretionary portfolios, as well as, the Global Macro Team. Prior to joining Point 72 in 2014, he was a Managing Director with Credit-Suisse who served as the Chief Risk Officer for the Systematic Market-Making Group of the Investment Bank and managed the market risk and credit risk hedging portfolios on behalf of the Global Equity Division. His primary responsibilities included the development of daily and intraday portfolio risk limits for the group’s trading desks. In addition, Rodriguez recommended and traded attractively priced relative value hedges to hedge the global equity portfolio against tail risks and to minimize capital requirements related to aggregate market and credit risk. He has over fourteen years of risk management experience including previous positions with Morgan Stanley as an Executive Director, reporting to the CRO of the firm, with responsibility for market risk methodology for the Institutional Securities Group. He began his career in financial services monitoring the risk of the Commodities Division at Morgan Stanley.
His research has been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Industrial Labor Relations Review, and Corporate Governance: An International Review. His co-authored paper entitled, "Governance Bundles, Firm Performance and the Substitutability and Complementarities of Governance Mechanisms" was voted the Best Paper of 2009 in the journal Corporate Governance: An International Review. Rodriguez is a former National Science Foundation Fellow and served as he Co-Regional Director of the Steering Committee of the New York Chapter of the Professional Risk Manager’s International Association for three years. He earned PRMIA’s Higher Standard Award in 2011 for outstanding contributions towards improving the understanding of leading edge risk management across the industry. Rodriguez has taught Market Risk Management in the Columbia University Executive Education program’s Complete Course in Risk Management and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member with Columbia University, NYU’s Department of Financial Engineering and Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T. and a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the United States Military Academy. He is also a former U.S. Army Officer and Army Ranger. Rodriguez has attained the 3, 4, 7, 24, 55, and 63 Series licenses, and has earned the PRM, CAIA, ERP, and FRM designations.
