Thomas Deely on Ireland’s Strength in Risk Management

In a recent article for the Dublin Globe, Thomas Deely, program director for the Master of Science in Applied Analytics at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies, reflects on Ireland’s standing as a hub of financial risk management and compliance.

He notes the predominance of Irish personnel throughout the risk and control functions of Wall Street firms, and that government and governmental agencies in Ireland have played a key role in nurturing and evangelizing the country as a financial services hub. Recent FinTech announcements in Ireland include the openings of Deloitte’s EMEA Blockchain Lab, MetLife’s Global Technology Campus, YapStone’s international headquarters, and Infosys’s first non-Indian R&D center. In addition, many financial services companies already have a significant technology presence there.

“Ireland has the foundation of an ecosystem in the space of financial risk management and compliance with a cluster of companies and universities driving the innovation with conviction,” writes Deely. “Building on their foundation requires continued nurturing, focus and investment.”
