IBM, ESPN, and AIG Engage With Inaugural Applied Analytics Cohort

To cap off the block week course, Analytics and Leading Change, Applied Analytics (M.S.) students participated in a cross-industry "Innovation Challenge."

Analytics professionals from across various industries held interactive lectures throughout the morning, including Vikram Somaya, SVP, Global Data Officer, ESPN; Guy Scalzi, Partner, Vantari Ventures, LLC; and Barrett Touhy, Global Project Executive, Global Technology Services, IBM.

Students then broke out into working groups and solved challenges posed by the professionals (such as, "provide a dashboard that visualizes profitability metrics for a healthcare organization"). After presenting to faculty, the three groups with the strongest presentations were admitted into the finals, and pitched to their peers across all the sections.

John Du, Global Head of Pricing and Portfolio Analytics, AIG, talked to students on how he helped implement predictive modeling into the firm's insurance claims process.

In January’s Innovation Challenge, Vincent Saulys, Senior Director, Advanced Surveillance Development at FINRA asked students to model unusual moves in stock prices. Dan Nemo, Chief Financial Officer at Bandsintown, asked students to solve for data research problems in email fatigue.
