Going “Beyond Borders” at the Presidential Debates

This week, SPS hosted Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, the premium brand of Royal Caribbean, here on campus. She delivered a lecture for our graduate students and sat down with me in our studio to record an interview for our new “Executive Perspectives Series” launch. The topic of women and leadership was featured for both events as well as insights learned from her illustrious career and recommendations for professional advancement.

Lisa and I spoke about the biggest risk she has ever taken: an advertising campaign that launched on television the night before we sat down together. Lisa’s team at Celebrity Cruises placed the commercial during Monday’s first presidential debate. The campaign is called “Sail Beyond Borders,” and Lisa talks about how the company used the spot to engage the national conversation by reinforcing the cruise company’s values. “You need a cultural moment to take a cultural stand,” Lisa said.
