Announcing the Columbia SPS Graduation Speaker: Randall Lane

I am pleased to announce the School of Professional Studies’ 2017 Graduation Speaker: Randall Lane, Editor of Forbes magazine.

As an entrepreneur and the editorial director of one of the world’s leading business publications, Mr. Lane has had direct access and exposure to the many changes the professional world has experienced in the last decade.

At Forbes, he has placed a new emphasis on young innovators and disruptors. He conceptualized and launched the Forbes 30 Under 30 lists, the Forbes Under 30 Summit, and the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy.

Previously, Mr. Lane was Editor-at-Large at Newsweek and the Daily Beast. He is the author of the book entitled The Zeroes: My Misadventures In the Decade Wall Street Went Insane. Mr. Lane co-founded P.O.V. Magazine (Adweek’s Startup of the Year), and launched Doubledown Media, publisher of magazines including Trader Monthly and Dealmaker.

Mr. Lane is passionate about using an entrepreneurial approach to tackling real-world problems—similar to our students, faculty, and alumni. His remarks will inspire our graduates to apply what they have learned at SPS to launch new careers, incubate new businesses, pivot to new fields or roles, challenge themselves to excel in their passions, and impact even greater spheres of influence.

This year, as we prepare for Graduation, I’d like to call on the Class of 2017 to share their experiences and post-graduation plans:

What challenges and opportunities, in the global professional marketplace, do you now feel prepared to pursue, and empowered to engage, with your new graduate degree?

I will be highlighting some of your answers in my Graduation remarks.

Submit your answers here.

I look forward to hearing from students and addressing the themes that emerge, and I am honored to congratulate our newest group of graduates.
